Activities Board of Kennesaw State University
A.k.a: Kennesaw Activities Board
By-laws (Revised 10/12/04)
Article I. Name
The name of this organization shall be the Activities Board of Kennesaw State University, hereafter referred to as the Kennesaw Activities Board, or KAB.
Article II. Purpose
The mission of KAB is to create a fun environment through programs that foster the development of the (KSU) Community and students within the KAB membership. The mission is accomplished through:
- A. Providing educational, social and recreational activities to the (KSU) community.
- B. Providing leadership and personal development opportunities in a fun and supportive environment to the KAB active membership.
Article III. Authority
- A. KAB derives its authority from the Student Activities and Budget Advisor Committee of Kennesaw State University. All KAB officers, area coordinators, and subcommittees derive their authority from the voting membership of KAB.
Article IV. Membership
Upon enrollment at Kennesaw State University, every student is eligible to become an
active member of KAB, eligible to serve in its areas, and participate in KAB programming.
- A. Voting Membership
- 1. Voting composition
- Any student who completes requirements set forth for all KAB voting members (as noted in Article IV section A subsection 2).
- 2. All voting members must fulfill the following requirements in order to gain voting privileges:
- a. Attend two (2) general meetings
- b. Do promotions for two (2) KAB events.
- 3. All members must fulfill the following requirements in order to maintain voting privileges:
- a. Hold at least one (1) hour a week in either CineKAB or the KAB office.
- b. Attend any KAB retreats.
- c. Miss no more than two (2) general meetings in one evaluation period.
- d. Help with two (2) KAB events in one evaluation period.
- e. Do promotions for two (2) KAB events in one evaluation period. (An evaluation Period shall be no less than one full calendar month while classes are in session, and shall be set by the secretary)

- B. Non-voting membership
- 1. Members of KAB’s executive board.
- a. KAB’s executive board gain voting rights during summer semester and when classes are not in session.
- b. The officers in consultation with the advisor have the power to overturn a decision of the GC if it is deemed to be damaging to the integrity of KAB or the KSU community
- 2. Any KSU student who does not fulfill the voting requirements.
- 3. Non-voting members have speaking privileges and may make motions in KAB meetings
- 4. Non-Voting members cannot second a motion.
- 1. Members of KAB’s executive board.
Article V. Officers and Area Coordinators
- A. Officers will consist of the President, Administrative Vice President, Vice President of Programming, Publicity and Public Relations Chair (PPR), and Secretary. These officers shall be elected by the student body at large. (Complete set of responsibilities shall be found in the Policy and Procedure Manual).
- 1. Duties of Office
- a. The President shall preside at all general meetings and shall be the official spokesperson for the Board
- b. The Administrative Vice President shall oversee the budget, the fall retreat, and shall fulfill the responsibilities of the president in his/her absence.
- c. The Vice President of Programming shall preside over all meetings of the executive board, oversee the activities of the executive committee, plan the summer retreat, and shall serve as the liaison to NACA.
- d. The Publicity and Public Relations Chair will be charged with overseeing the execution of Publicity and Public Relations for KAB and all its events. He/she shall enforce the KAB Marketing Plan. He/she shall oversee the Techno Kabbie Coordinator.
- e. The Secretary shall take minutes and attendance at all meetings, shall distribute copies of documents to all Board members and the advisor, maintain procedural manuals, and shall keep exact records of all KAB events, assessments, and KAB membership records.
- f. Each officer is responsible for completing the requirements set forth in the KAB PPM.
- 1. Duties of Office
- B. Members will be appointed to coordinate programming for each of the following areas respectively: CineKAB, Chautauqua Lectures, DisLovin’, KSU Hommie, KARshow, Dead Fever, Techno KABbie, Nature Bound Tripleader and Education, Recruitment and Retention. (Complete set of responsibilities shall be found in the KAB PPM).
- 1. Duties of office
- a. Each area coordinator will be charged with providing a complete programming year encompassing the needs of the diverse KSU student body.
- b. Each area coordinator is responsible for completing the requirements set forth by the Executive Board for each term.

- C. Areas can be created or abolished by a 2/3 vote of the general membership.
- D. The Executive Board shall be composed of the officers and the area coordinators.
Article VI. Elections and Eligibility
- A. Elections
- 1. The officer elections shall take place no later than the second full calendar week in March. Selections for the area coordinators shall be made by the second KAB general meeting of April, and voted on during that meeting.
- 2. The Election guidelines may be found within the KAB PPM. All enrolled students shall be eligible to vote.
- B. Eligibility for Offices
- 1. Must be currently enrolled in at least six credit hours and enrolled for the remainder of their scheduled term.
- 2. Must be in good academic standing as defined by the KSU Student Handbook.
- 3. Cannot hold more than one executive position in KAB in any given term unless voted on by the board.
- 4. Must have previously held an area coordinator position in KAB in the past two years.
- 5. Must have a cumulative G.PA. of 2.5.
- C. Terms of Office and Method of Appointment
- 1. Area coordinators shall be appointed by the Officers-Elect and approved by a majority vote of the voting membership of KAB.
- 2. Terms of office.
- a. Officers will serve for one (1) year commencing the first day of the week containing the second general KAB meeting of April.
- b. Coordinators will serve for one (1) year commencing the day after the second general KAB meeting in April.
- 3. All officers will be elected by the Kennesaw State student body.
- E. Vacancies
- 1. Upon a vacancy in the position of KAB President, the Administrative Vice President shall assume the office of the President and a new Administrative Vice President shall be appointed by the new President subsequently approved by a majority vote of the KAB voting membership.
- 2. The KAB President has the authority to appoint a replacement for any position that may become vacant during their term of office, subject to the approval of the KAB voting membership.
Article VII. Functions of the Board
KAB shall be composed of two groups:
1. The Executive Board charged with administering the entire KAB programming year
2. the general board composed of all voting members charged with approving, creating and executing individual KAB programs and activities.
- A. Specific functions of KAB executive board shall be:
- 1. To create diverse yearly programming for the KSU student body.
- 2. To be responsible for normal budgetary processes of KAB by preparing the budget.
- 3. Survey KSU students concerning problems relating to programming needs.
- 4. Provide the opportunities for members to develop leadership skills.
- 5. To exercise all powers and duties deemed necessary, but not herein provided for, subject to the approval of the general board.
- B. Specific responsibilities of the general board shall be:
- 1. To approve all KAB sponsored events.
- 2. To execute all KAB programming events.
- 3. To seek and encourage widespread student involvement in and support for KAB programs.
- 4. To remove, upon recommendation of the officers, any KAB executive member from their position, who has failed to perform duties set forth in the by-laws, minutes, and policy manual of KAB. Due process, as set forth in the KAB PPM, will be afforded to all members in the removal process.
- 5. To provide for the appointment of such additional officers and/or programming areas deemed necessary by the KAB President.
- 6. To uphold these bylaws.
- 7. To exercise all powers and duties deemed necessary, but not herein provided for, subject to the approval of SABAC.
Article VIII. Meetings
- A. The General Meetings shall take place on a weekly basis. Meeting times for meetings shall be set each semester by the recommendation of the KAB President and upon approval by the KAB voting membership, with a minimum of two meetings a month during the academic school year (excluding summer session).
- B. The Executive Board shall meet separately no less than twice a month during the regular term at a time decided upon by a majority vote of its membership. These meetings may be closed to the general student body as permitted under the GA Public Records Law.
- C. Quorum shall consist of 50% + 1 voting members and 50% of the Executive Board.
- D. A retreat will be held in fall and summer semesters. The fall retreat will be used for team building activities. The summer retreat will be used to plan programming for the following year.
Article IX. Rules and Order of Procedure
- A. Every KAB voting member is responsible for being familiar with these bylaws and the procedures they mandate.
- B. The current edition of ABC’s of Parlimentary Procdure by Channing L. Bete shall govern all procedures of KAB, unless otherwise provided for in these bylaws, policy manual (PPM), or minutes of KAB.
Article X.
- A. Amendments to these bylaws must be presented to the active membership of KAB. KAB must wait at least one general meeting to vote on amendments, and ¾ vote is necessary for amendments to pass.
- B. Amendments to these bylaws, once approved by KAB, must be submitted to SABAC for approval, and will go into effect immediately upon ratification, unless otherwise stated.
